CDC Clinical Reminder: Insulin Pens Must Never Be Used for More than One Person
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has become increasingly aware of reports of improper use of insulin pens, which places individuals at risk of infection with pathogens including hepatitis viruses and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). On January 10, 2012 the CDC issued a notice to serve as a reminder that insulin pens must never be used on more than one person. Learn more.
Best Insulin Injection Technique: Teaching the Long and the Short of It
The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) is offering this archived webcast at no cost (free). The webcast reexamines prevailing assumptions about the effects of factors such as needle length on insulin delivery by describing evidence-based injection techniques and education strategies that maximize medication effect in different patient populations. Upon successful completion, AADE is providing free 1.5 hours of CE credit to RNs.

Abbott Glucose Test Strips: Recall - False Low Blood Glucose Results
(recall released 12/22/2010)
FDA and Abbott Diabetes Care have recalled 359 different lots of glucose test strips marketed under the following brand names: Precision Xceed Pro, Precision Xtra, Medisense Optium, Optium, OptiumEZ and ReliOn Ultima. Test strips with lot numbers that have been recalled may give falsely low blood glucose results. For more information click here .
