Research Grants for Proposed Research Projects

NASN Research Grant awarded for research with a focus on any area related to School Nursing and/or impacting Student Health.  Average Award is $2,500/Maximum Award is $5,000.
This NASN Research Grant combines three previous research awards: Lillian Wald Research Award for research impacting the health of children (1982), Pauline Fenelon Research Award for research in school nurse practice issues (1987), and the Lina Rogers Award for research impacting school nursing services for students (1990).  Lillian Wald was the founder of school nursing in America through the Henry Street Settlement in New York City on October 1, 1902.  Lina Rogers was the first school nurse in America.  Pauline Fenelon was an NASN President, 1984-85.  These three awards were first combined in 1997 to allow increased funding for research.

NASN Directed Research Grant awarded for pertinent topic of interest* determined annually by NASN.  Average Award is $2,500/Maximum Award is $5,000.

This NASN Research Grant originated in 1998 when Carol Costante, a school nurse administrator from Maryland who served as NASN President (1997-98), made a monetary donation to promote research efforts by school nurses.  In 2001, NASN approved separation and renaming of the awards and grants to establish research grants for the purpose of funding proposed (not completed) research.  The original seed money donated by Past President Constante facilitated the development of this award for any identified area needing targeted research related to school nursing and/or student health.
