Purpose To publicly recognize school nurses nationwide by annually honoring one School Nurse of the Year from each affiliate who has demonstrated excellence in school nursing practice and leadership in school health. Sponsor NASN Affiliate School Nurse Organizations Eligibility 1. One (1) nominee from each NASN Affiliate. 2. Nominee must be: a. A registered professional nurse. b. A member of NASN current and preceding two years. The preceding two years must be continuous (without lapse in membership). 3. Nominee may not be on the NASN Board of Directors or an officer of NASN at the time of nomination. Affiliate Requirements 1. Submit summary of honoree’s accomplishments. The summary may not exceed 300 words. 2. Submit digital photograph of honoree at least 300 dpi/inch. The photograph must be formatted as a .jpg and should be no larger than 1MB in size. Suggested Guidelines for Affiliate School Nurse of the Year 1. Nominee should have five years experience as a school nurse and is currently practicing as a school nurse. 2. More than 50% of nominee’s time should be spent in direct care. 3. Evidence of excellence in school nursing practice should be based on Scope and Standards of Professional School Nursing Practice (National Association of School Nurses and American Nurses Association, 2005).
How to Submit an Application All applications must be submitted using NASN's Web-based submission system. No other mode of application will be accepted. The submission form will open on or by January 1, 2011 and will be accessible on this Web site. Detailed submission guidelines will be posted at that time. Application Deadline: March 1, 2011. History Over the years, many inspiring stories from stellar candidates have been submitted for the National School Nurse of the Year award. After careful study by a president-appointed task force, the Board of Directors approved in June 2009, that NASN recognize "Excellence in School Nursing" annually by honoring one School Nurse of the Year from each affiliate. The NASN Board of Directors will work with staff to determine how to recognize the affiliate nominees nationally at the NASN Annual Conference.
