School Nurse of the Year

The vice president in collaboration with the NASN meeting planner will oversee annual recognition activities. Nominees for recognition will be approved by the Executive Committee.

Purpose

To publicly recognize school nurses nationwide by annually honoring one School Nurse of the Year from each affiliate who has demonstrated excellence in school nursing practice and leadership in school health

Eligibility

One (1) nominee from each NASN affiliate

Nominee must be

  • A registered professional nurse.
  • A current member of NASN at the time the award is determined by the affiliate.

Affiliate Responsibility

  • Submit summary of awardee's accomplishments by March 1st of each year to the NASN office. The summary may not exceed 300 words.
  • Submit at least a 300 dpi/inch digital photograph of awardee by March 1st to the NASN office. 

Suggested Guidelines for Affiliate School Nurse of the Year

  1. Nominee should have five years' experience as a school nurse and is currently practicing as a school nurse. 
  2. More than 50% of nominee’s time should be spent in direct care. 
  3. Evidence of excellence in school nursing practice should be based on School Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition, 2011.

How to Submit an Application

  • All applications must be submitted online. No other mode of application will be accepted. The online application opens in December.
  • Nominations must be submitted by the NASN director of the affiliate organization.
  • Application Deadline: March 1st

School Nurse Administrator of the Year

Purpose

To publicly recognize school nurse administrators nationwide by annually honoring one School Nurse Administrator of the Year from each affiliate

Eligibility

One (1) nominee from each NASN affiliate

Nominee must

  • Be a registered professional nurse.
  • Have a bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Be a current member of NASN at the time the award is determined by the affiliate.

Affiliate Responsibilities

  • Submit summary of awardee's accomplishments by March 1st of each year to the NASN office. The summary may not exceed 300 words.
  • Submit at least a 300 dip/inch digital photograph of awardee by March 1st to NASN office.

Suggested Guidelines for Affiliate School Nurse Administrator of the Year

  1. Nominee should have completed five years' experience in school health and currently practice full time and have as his or her main responsibility the supervision, administration, and coordination of nursing service and health programs.
  2. Evidence of excellence in school nursing administration should be based on ANA Scope and Standards for Nurse Administrators.
