Transition in The Journal of School Nursing (JOSN) Executive Editor

Dr. Julia Muennich Cowell, PhD, RN, FNASN, FAAN, JOSN Executive Editor has stepped down from that role. For 11 years, Dr. Cowell led the manuscript and issues management, selection and leadership of the Editorial Advisory Board and Editorial Panel, selection of annual writing awards, and steady increase in JOSN’s impact factor. NASN applauds Dr. Cowell’s contributions in advancing school nursing practice through relevant research, policy, innovative practice articles and literature reviews.

NASN welcomes Dr. Martha Dewey Bergren, DNS RN NCSN PHNA-BC FNASN FASHA FAAN, as JOSN Executive Editor effective September 1, 2020. Dr. Bergren brings decades of clinical and academic leadership. Her writing skills are noted in over 80 respected publications. Dr. Bergren served terms on the JOSN Editorial Advisory Board and Editorial Panel, as well as on other school nursing and school health journals. Her extensive experience as a manuscript reviewer and mentoring students in manuscript review, along with her research doctorate will inform her work as Executive Editor. In spring 2020, Dr. Bergren retired from the University of Illinois – Chicago College of Nursing and received Clinical Professor Emerita status.
