Teaching Developmentally Appropriate Sexual Health Education for Special Education Students

By NASN Inc posted 01-15-2021 16:14

Research shows that students with intellectual/developmental disabilities are five times more likely to be sexually molested or assaulted, are less likely to understand or report the incident, and are less likely to be believed. Because of this, many states are now requiring comprehensive sexual health education for secondary students. Sample individual and small group learning strategies, motivational interviewing, handling selfdisclosure of abuse and instructional resources will be discussed. This course was originally presented at Virtual NASN2020 and is now available in the NASN Learning Center
