    I welcomed some of you earlier, but decided I should do a group post as the list is getting longer and I want you all to know that this list is active.  You might want to introduce yourselves with a short post as to why you have joined this list, i.e you have applied to take the exam, looking to become involved in an online study group, just want more information, etc.  The list belongs to you.I am the administrator of the list and at least for the present I will be moderating it. There are a couple of state liaisons in the group, and at least one other board member.

    My name is Pat Krin and I am the Executive Director of NBCSN.  Please feel free to ask questions, respond to posts, offer to help coordinate an online study group.  You can set your mail to receive posts immediately as they are sent or as a daily digest.  Choose what is best for you.  You can always change it in the future.

    Good Morning All:

    I have been a RN for a long time; but a school nurse for only 9 years.  I am interested in more information about the exam; possible online study groups.  I looked at the study and I purchased a review book on amazon.  I am somewhat intimated by the exam.  Interested to hear how others are preparing, etc.  So happy that this group formed.

    Hi, my name is Amber Guillot. I am just starting my second year as a school nurse, but I am a planner and like to prepare in advance for everything. I decided to join this group so that I can get an idea of what to expect as well as start studying now for my certification test. I live in Colorado, and did my mentoring process last year.

    Hi Pat,
    Thank you for starting this community!  
    I joined because I believe that attaining NCSN is an important way for school nurses to demonstrate their professionalism.   
    National certification is recognized in both the health and education worlds as a mark of excellence.   It is a way to build recognition for the professional work of school nurses.  

    We need to also build an understanding of the importance of state legislators recognizing NCSN by providing school nurses with stipends equal to teachers who are national board certified. 

    As a "data geek" I also like that it is a nationally standardized variable that has a recognized definition.

    Hi Pat,
    I had the pleasure of meeting you at the NBCSN booth at NASN 2017. I have been a school nurse for many years. I've practiced in CT, SC and NC. I am currently a supervisor in NC and became certified this year. I hope to encourage and support our staff as they begin the preparation process. This discussion board is a great idea and I plan to spread the word about it!

    Good Morning to All

    My name is Patti Butler. I practice as a CSN (Elementary PS-Gr. 5 for 18+ years) and as a Staff RN (NICU/WCS 25+ years). As the new year begins, thus a new personal goal is created! 

    Any suggestions from all for studies (outline, group meetings, FB, web chat, etc.)?
    Has anyone ever taken the exam prior? Takeaways? I'm flexible and look forward to taking the exam Spring/Summer 2018.

    I have been a school nurse since 2009.  I am looking to personally challenge myself  and I am excited to be part of this group. I have been thinking about taking this test for sometime but have felt a little intimidated. I am looking to see what would help me best prepare for this exam and in the process learn new things.  I am a nurse in a very rural community.  Our school is Pre-K through 12th grade with about 350 students.  I am glad that this forum has been established and look forward to hear what people have to say and tips to be shared.

    I am a middle school and high school nurse.  Interested in finding out more about the exam. The credential will not change anything regarding my position in the school, so I am more interested in just completing the competency benchmark for my own validation.

    Karen, congratulations on considering becoming certified.  Many other nurses do it for the same reasons you mentioned. Have you visited the website www.nbcsn.org/examination.

    I am not sure what you want to know but there is a wealth of information on that page.

     

    If you have specific questions, please list them here, we will try to answer for you.
