Welcome to the online study group. We are excited to have school nurses join this "virtual" group for questions, support, and weekly study guide suggestions. We will also include multiple choice test-taking strategies, which is one of the keys to success on the exam. Look for weekly posts that will be uploaded on Fridays!

Subject: Welcome to Week #1 of our online study group
Hi,
I'd like to join the study group. I have just ordered the book, so depending on when it arrives, I'll work to catch up with everyone. Thanks for doing this.

Welcome to Week #1 of our online NCSN Study Group. Here is a little study group humor to set the tone for our group because we also need to have some fun and remember to enjoy the process. In the end, you might just find that you learned a lot through this refresher course in school nursing practice! To begin this process, it's suggested to start with the Selekman/Wolfe School Nursing Certification Review book. Here is a link to the book:

The book gives great test-taking tips, which will be shared with our study group. It also has test questions at the end of each review chapter. Chapters 1& 2 provide background/history of NCSN and test preparation tips. Let's start our study group by reviewing the content of Chapters 1&2, and then focusing on Chapter 3, Foundations of Pediatric Nursing, including the assessment. One idea that worked for me and others I have spoken with is to take the assessment at the end of the chapter first and then, while reviewing the content, pay extra attention to the sections where you missed the mark. This is where you might want to review the Selekman School Nursing textbook or <g class="gr_ gr_30 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="30" data-gr-id="30">NASN's</g> White Papers on the specific topics.
Assignment for Week #1: Review Chapters 1 & 2, Complete Assessment Chapter 3 and share a reflection with our group. The more responses, the richer the discussion! I am here to support the group in any way I can, and I encourage you to reach out to each other as well for support, ideas, and suggestions to create the kind of virtual study group that you need.
Congratulations on taking this important step. Once you dig into the content, I promise it will be fun and you will feel really empowered by taking ownership of the process. Take the word study out of the equation and substitute it with being curious, we are life-long learners, it's the nature of a nurse! Keep in touch, and happy learning!
