Hi all,
I am one of the NBCSN state liaisons for North Carolina and we are sharing our certification story and exam tips!
After 10 years of school nursing in Pennsylvania public schools, I began working in a parochial school in Delaware in 2015, where I started hearing a lot about national certification. I was already certified in Pennsylvania, but I realized that state certification does not necessarily translate to other states. Since Janice Selekman is from Delaware, her connection to the state and her advocacy for national certification made it something that was strongly encouraged among the nurses. I began to understand the importance of national certification and dove head-first into studying!
I recall using the textbook and taking practice tests. My biggest test-taking tip is: Do not second-guess your first answer! I am one of those people who can get through a test, and when given the opportunity to review my answers, I inevitably end up changing the correct one!
I have learned to give each challenging question my "best guess," move on, and don't look back! Your initial response is likely the right one! :-)
You know the content because you do it everyday. Hone your test-taking skills and give it your best!
