You did it!  Let me know when you test and how you do! Sending great testing vibes your way.   Look over all weeks, trust in what you know and good luck.

Here are the answers to this week's challenge questions.

Question:  What is considered β€˜Best Practice?’

    A. Take a deep breath and trust your preparation with the best answer.

    B. Plan to arrive at the testing site at the start time of the exam.

    C. Cram reviewing all practice test questions and reviewing texts the night before.

    D. Eat a HUGE meal and beverage the night before bed.

Correct answer:  A.  Take a deep breath and trust your preparation by selecting the best answer.

Rationale: You have prepared for the test most recently, AND your everyday practice is your best preparation.  Plan to arrive early, and plan for potential delays such as traffic and weather.  As a reminder, the best option will always be a testing site although remote proctoring is available. Cramming the night before may cause confusion during the test.  Have a calm evening the night before with a light dinner and don’t forget breakfast!!! Be sure to review the β€˜free’ questions some can be found on the Challenge The School Nurse site and the Nurse Builders Test Taking Course.

    Resource:

    •  Review the Janice Selekman’s resource listed next. Suggest pages 9-10 the night before!

    • Selekman, J. & Knox, E. (Eds.). (2025). School Nursing Certification Review. (4th edition). National Board for Certification of School Nurses. P 185-225, Chapter 1, P. 6, 9-10.

    • Review test taking skills offered weekly in SNN.  Thinking positive and confident will help to decrease test anxiety!  YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF!!!!

Question:  Thinking about testing day, which of the following best describes you!?

    A. I think I can pass!

    B. I have studied and I am prepared!

    C. I know I can pass!

    D. I know I’ll do my best!

Correct answer:  You decide!  Hopefully B, C and D!!!!

Rationale: This timeless line is usually spoken by Christopher Robin to Pooh Bear to offer reassurance, self-belief, and comfort. A.A. Milne in Winnie the Pooh: "You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."    Disney

Resource:  SNN study guide, review test taking strategies

    I passed!!! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

I know this is a long post, but I feel like sometimes you just need to hear what you can do differently, what resources are available, and have everything in one place that may help someone else pass.

This was my second time taking the NBSCN exam. The first time, I passed every section except Special Health Practice Considerations. I kept moving forward, changed my study approach, and made it happen!

For the exam, take your time! Flag questions you are unsure about and come back to them. Don't get stuck on one question. Keep moving forward, take a few deep breaths, and trust your knowledge.

My biggest study advice is to carefully read the rationales from the practice questions. They will help you determine whether you need to review the 2025 School Nurse Certification Review Book or School Nursing: A Comprehensive Text, 4th Edition (borrowed from a local college). I found that many of the rationales were explained in the comprehensive textbook.

I also purchased the Nurse Builders 2025 NCSN Review E-Course by Janice Selekman, the Nursing Certification Exam Preparation Anxiety Management E-Course, and the NBSCN practice tests. All were very helpful!

I highly recommend the free Comprehensive School Nursing course through the University of Missouri. It provides 20 hours of CEUs for FREE and helped me better understand the material. This course was my "aha" moment where everything started to click, and I had a better understanding of the concepts.

The course follows the textbook but breaks the information down in a way that makes it easier to learn and understand.

Good luck everyone! You've got this! Have an amazing summer!

    Christine

Best of luck to all of you who have not tested yet. Keep studying and hang in there. I found the Review book, the Nurse Builders course, and practice questions to be very helpful.

It is so exciting to see the "I passed" messages! Congratulations, and thank you for sharing your thoughts. Not everyone passes on the first try, and it is great to hear how you were able to use your first experience to hone your study skills and prepare you for the retake.
