Educating Parents on the Threat of Communicable Diseases

By NASN Inc posted 05-10-2019 16:05

School nurses play an important role in educating parents on the threat of communicable diseases — and in sending students home if they don't have their shots.

As you all know, we are seeing the worst outbreak of measles since the disease was considered eliminated in the U.S. in 2000.  The outbreaks have led to emergency declarations in New York and Washington and quarantines of students and faculty at two public universities in Los Angeles last week.

School nurses are critical in getting the message out that vaccines are safe and that they prevent disease.  NASN has resources to help “spread that word” about immunizations on its website.
