The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is working with the Food and Drug Administration, state health departments, and public health and clinical partners to investigate the multistate outbreak of lung injury associated with e-cigarette product use, or vaping. Read more in the following two reports published this week:

Characteristics of a Multistate Outbreak of Lung Injury Associated with E-cigarette Use, or Vaping — United States, 2019. Read the report.

E-cigarette Product Use or Vaping Among Persons with Associated Lung Injury — Illinois and Wisconsin, April–September 2019. Read the report.

The latest findings suggest products containing THC play a role in the outbreak. CDC recommends vaping products should not be used by youth, young adults, women who are pregnant, adults who do not currently use tobacco products; and adults who used e-cigarettes containing nicotine to quit cigarette smoking, should not return to smoking cigarettes. The most up-to-date information can be found on the CDC’s website.
