Hey everyone! I took the test this past Friday and passed. So
glad it's behind me! As I was taking it, I honestly wasn't sure, as there was a lot of information covered that I hadn't specifically focused on. But I used the many test taking strategies and tips and my experience to make educated guesses on those questions. I actually got a higher score than expected based on the number of questions I made educated guesses on. Here are generally some tips as I think of how I prepared for the test and what helped me feel most confident going into it:
-review all the questions at the end of each review book chapter AND the rationales. You get more info in the explanation! Same with the sample test from Indiana (or Iowa??) and the practice tests if you purchased them (I did last minute and am thankful I did - lots of money but ultimately cheaper than failing the exam and having to pay to retake it)
-review Erickson and Piaget and use silly ways to remember the stages (google is helpful for this!)
-specifically write notes regarding vaccines and oddities about each one…like which has yeast, or how many hep b's a specific age kid needs, or contraindications.
-review the nursing process and understand that while in practice we may do multiple steps at the same time, there is an order
-take moments to breathe during the test. Or stretch.
-wear the optional provided ear plugs. Helps with distraction.
-as I was stressing leading up to the exam, my good friend said a quote from a movie: whether an inch or a mile, a win is a win. That was so helpful!
-get to the test center super early, and find a place to buy yourself a coffee, breathe, and review the material, and use the bathroom
Best of luck to everyone! Hope some of the is helpful :)
