Is the 2010 book significantly different from the 2020?   Can I use it?  Maybe a stupid question... but wanted to ask.   Thank you.  Martha

    Hi Martha,

Basic school nursing principles are what they are, so much of the information will be the same. However, the 2020 book will include more up-to-date information. There is a 2025 edition forthcoming very soon, as well. The 2010 book can be used as one tool in the toolbox. There are many other resources available on the NBCSN website.

Please be aware also that the domains have changed as of the upcoming exam. You can see the new domains in the Candidate Handbook.

As the author, I can assure you that each edition (including the one that will come out next month) is updated and more accurate than the previous one. While some of the information is the same from edition to edition (such as growth and development), as questions are added to the test bank, new content is added to the book. As the NBCSN test plan changes, so does the book.
So yes, you can use old editions to get you started, but keep in mind that these are not as updated or "state of the science" as the newest editions are.
