Asthma is the most common chronic childhood disease and a common reason for pediatric emergency medical treatment. In the United States, there is a disproportionate burden of asthma among children of color and those who are economically disadvantaged. The focus of our session is on the adoption of undesignated stock emergency asthma medication in schools. We will review the current stock albuterol landscape and share best practices for passing legislation that allows a stock albuterol program. Our presentations align with NASN’s School Nursing Practice Framework™, touching on advocacy to improve access to care, quality improvement, through comprehensive training and throughout implementation, evaluation. Come join us as we demonstrate how undesignated stock emergency asthma medication programs lead to improved health outcomes and fewer hours of missed classroom time.
