Advocacy in Action: School Nurses Leading Legislative Change

By Laura Phillips, MPH, BSN, RN, NCSN posted 11 days ago

Do you want to be more of an effective advocate for school age children and school nurses? Are you comfortable talking to legislatures? Do you know the difference between advocacy and legislation? NASN’s Advocacy Committee will help you find your voice at the NASN 2025 Pre Conference Leadership Summit.

Advocacy in school nursing involves nurses acting as student advocates, protecting their rights, ensuring quality care, and speaking up for their needs, while also advocating for the profession and improving student health. School nurse advocacy is a key component of the profession, involving the promotion of  policies and practices that support student health, safety, and well-being, as outlined in the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) School Nursing Practice Framework.

This workshop empowers school nurses to confidently step into their role as advocates, equipped with the tools to effect meaningful change in student health policies.  Whether you are a novice or an experienced advocate this program will help you in developing a program for your affiliate that allows you to use your voice as a nurse and an organization.

Throughout the workshop, attendees will engage with current policy issues through interactive simulations, ensuring the content remains relevant and actionable. By the session's end, each nurse will have created personal advocacy goals and gained access to a network of like-minded professionals and resources.

Nurses are the most trusted profession year after year. Nurses have a voice! Just think what we can do together!

Hope to see your there!
