You can use the template below, but it is always great to add how this may
impact you or your district personally.
Hello!
I am a school nurse
from ____________________________________________________________
____.
I am asking for your support HB1675/SB1715, which requires LEAs to classify
school nurses who have a National School Nurse Certification (NCSN) as
licensed personnel for salary purposes. Here are a few points as to the benefit of
the bill:
• Small Fiscal Note:
o There are only 62 Nationally Certified School Nurses in the entire
state. This will be a small fiscal note but will have a great impact for
those expert school nurses.
o 39 of the 62 Nationally Certified School Nurses are in just two
districts that already pay school nurses on a teacher's salary or
equivalent.
• Competence and Excellence:
o To earn the NCSN, a Registered Nurse must have a bachelor's
degree and demonstrate a high level of education, clinical practice
experience, and knowledge.
o Successful candidates demonstrate excellence and experience in
the areas of health appraisal, health problems and nursing
management, health promotion and disease prevention, special
health issues, professional issues, and research
• Healthier Students:
o Advances the health of students by having better-educated and
prepared school nurses
• Promotes Higher Education
o RN required to have a Bachelor's Nursing degree (BSN)
o BSN Nurse must then study and pass a rigorous national exam
o BSN Nurse must maintain 75 credits of National Certified
professional Development (NCPD) hours every recertification period
Thank you for your consideration of this impactful legislation.
