 School Nurse Childhood Obesity Prevention Education

What is S.C.O.P.E.?
S.C.O.P.E.
 is a comprehensive, live, full day continuing education program developed by the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) to provide strategies for school nurses to assist students, families and the school community to address the challenges of obesity and overweight.  It is presented by a School Nurse with a specific interest in childhood obesity.  

Why do School Nurses need S.C.O.P.E.?
S.C.O.P.E.
is designed especially for school nurses.  This program provides an overview about the problem of overweight and obesity in children, BMI screening, type 2 diabetes, blood pressure screening, the school nurse role and research about what is really working to address this issue.  School nurses receive tools to assist them in helping students, staff and parents in the school environment to promote healthy weight.  S.C.O.P.E. provides letters, forms, referral guidelines and recommendations for community collaboration.     

What is the Program Goal of S.C.O.P.E.?
To provide strategies for school nurses to assist students, families and the school community to address the challenge of obesity and overweight.

What Materials and Resources will School Nurses receive with S.C.O.P.E.?
Participants will receive a Participant Manual and numerous resources to support school nursing practice as it relates to overweight and obesity in children.  Letters to parents, community resources and primary care providers.  S.C.O.P.E. also includes the most recent assessment techniques for high risk students.  Participant materials are only available to persons attending the live program.    

How many Continuing Nursing Education contact hours are associated with S.C.O.P.E.?
6 Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Contact Hours provided.
The National Association of School Nurses, Inc. is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
