 Strong Bones RN, RU?

Strong Bones RN, RU?This toolkit, developed in partnership with the Best Bones Forever! campaign and the National Osteoporosis Foundation, provides monthly activities, handouts, and lesson plans to teach students about bone health.  Below are links to the toolkit materials or resources.

NASN partnered with Best Bones Forever!, a national campaign through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health, and the National Osteoporosis Foundation to provide this free toolkit and materials for school nurses to teach students about good bone health.

Boys and girls ages 9-18 are in their critical bone-building years. This is their time to develop bone-healthy habits such as consuming enough calcium and vitamin D, and including enough bone-strengthening activities to prevent osteoporosis later in life. By the time they reach age 18, they have developed almost all of their bone mass.

Unfortunately, not enough boys, and girls in particular, are getting the calcium and physical activity they need to build strong bones. Fewer than one in 10 girls gets the 1,300 milligrams of calcium they need every day. In addition, girls’ physical activity levels drop dramatically as they get older.

NASN is committed to providing quality resources.  If you plan to use any or all of the materials in this toolkit and would be willing to share feedback with NASN, please share your e-mail address and name so that NASN can follow-up with you.  Please note that the information you supply will ONLY be used to request your feedback on the Strong Bones RN, RU? resources.  Click here to share your contact information.  Thank you.
