Guidelines

Scholarship application is open to any registered nurse graduate student who intends to enter the field of school health in RI. They must demonstrate excellence in academics and nursing practice. Candidate will be notified by April 15th (annually) and will be presented with the award at the May banquet. The scholarship recipients and 1 guest (relative or significant other) will receive a complimentary dinner at the banquet.

Purpose

To publicly support and recognize school nursing statewide by annually honoring one Registered Nurse graduate student who intends to enter the field of School Health and demonstrates excellence in academics and nursing practice.

Eligibility

1. Candidate must: 

  • Have a current license as a Registered Nurse in RN
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience working as an RN
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree
  • Have a GPA of 3.25 or more
  • Be enrolled in a collegiate course of study, working toward obtaining certification as a school nurse teacher.
  • Must be a student member of RICSNA/NASN

2. Reference letters must provide evidence of excellence in nursing practice. According to the National Association of School Nurses (NASN), evidence of excellence in nursing practice includes demonstrating a commitment to evidence-based practices, actively participating in professional development, advocating for student health needs, collaborating with other healthcare professionals, and consistently delivering high-quality care to students. 

Procedure

  • Include in the application:
    • Resume signed by the candidate
    • Letter from candidate explaining qualifications for the scholarship and desire to enter School Health
    • Two (2) letters of recommendation
  • Letters may be from former or current professors, school nurse-teacher supervisor, principals or previous employers.
  • Letters should describe specific issues or topics related to nominee’s qualifications for the award and reflect criteria for selection.
    • Transcripts from college or university showing that candidate is enrolled in a collegiate course of study working toward obtaining a RIDE certification.
  • Submit the application electronically to rischoolnurse@gmail.com no later than April 30th of the current year.
