Minnetonka Public Schools - Licensed School Nurse

Job Information

We are seeking a highly motivated, flexible, enthusiastic nurse for Minnetonka High School.

You will provide licensed school nurse health services and programs within a positive learning environment to high school students grades 9-12  through health promotion, disease protection and health maintenance. There is also a full time LPN that assists with the essential operation of the health office, a health para that works 4 hours a week, and a nurse that assists with special education reports and evaluations for 12th grade students that will transition to SAIL (our program for those up to 22 years of age).

Qualifications:

  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Minnesota required
  • Certification as a Licensed School Nurse (LSN) or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the school year required
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) required

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and reassessment for students with chronic and acute health conditions and/or disabilities in the special or general education setting.
  • Provide direct professional nursing services such as first aid, illness and emergency care, medication administration, g-tube feedings, catheterizations etc and health teaching.
  • Provide mental health support including intervention and/or referral to appropriate school staff or community agencies
  • Participate in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations and medical conditions using District technology
  • Delegate appropriate functions to health paraprofessionals as needed. Provide supervision for their direct and indirect care.
  • Enhance the educational process through modification or removal of health-related barriers to learning and by promoting student wellness.
  • Follow state and county guidelines for reporting contagious conditions and informing families and staff.
  • Develop Individual Health Plans, Emergency Care Plans, and 504 Plans as needed
  • Collaborate with the special education team to ensure student success. Duties may include: attending special education meetings when appropriate, providing supervision and training to special education paras as needed, obtaining and documenting health assessments.
  • Participate in twice monthly PLC's and follow the other PLC requirements if hired at a .75 FTE or greater.
  • Interpret health information and its impact on education planning for students.
  • Attend and participate in local, regional, and state professional organizations and conferences related to student support services and school health programs to keep current relative to the field of school health, the district community, and the broader regional and state community.
  • Organize and maintain the emergency response team.
  • Advocate integration of District vision and policies into action plans.
  • Perform Qualified Professional duties for third-party reimbursement program including: developing care plans, training PCA's/paras, monitoring as required by MN third party reimbursement guidelines. Collection and submission of data as required for third party reimbursement.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

employment. Experience is preferred, but not required. Licensed School Nurses are on the
teacher contract and work 185 days with benefits year round. You will mentor with an
experienced school nurse and receive training and support to help you grow in your role.

Job Summary:
This position will supervise three school nurses, along with district/high school nursing duties.
Tasks involved in fulfilling above duty/responsibility:

  • Provide assessment, planning, implementation, outcome identification, evaluation and reassessment for students with chronic health conditions in general and special education settings
