The New York State Association of School Nurses (NYSASN) is the professional organization representing the specialty practice of school nursing in New York State. NYSASN was founded in 1986 by a grass roots group of school nurses who were dedicated in their vision to enhance the practice of school nursing.

To advance the practice of school nursing and to enhance the educational success of students by promoting quality health services.
What NYSASN Does to Promote School Nursing
- Provides an annual School Nurse Orientation Program in association with the NYS Education Department since 1989.
- Monitors and responds to legislation that has a direct impact on the health and educational success of students.
- Provides the sought-after voice for school nursing across NYS, by educating stakeholders about the vital role school nurses play in educational outcomes.
- Provides educational opportunities on current topics of interest, awards CE’s for courses attended, and creates a networking environment for school nurses.
- Honors outstanding school nurses from across the state with the “Excellence in School Nursing Award.”
- Appoints a member of the NYSASN Board of Directors to serve as a voting member of the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) Board of Directors who attends all national meetings.
- Collaborates with the New York State Nurses Association and the State Education Department to improve school health services.
- Provides a delegate to the New York State Council of Educational Associations to represent the issues of school nurses at their business meetings three times per year. This delegate has voting privileges on the NYSCEA Board.
- Offers two educational scholarships per year for those qualified members seeking to continue their studies at undergraduate and graduate levels.
