Camps for Students with Special Needs

The New York State Association of School Nurses (NYSASN) does not recommend or endorse any of the camps listed below. Those listed are for informational purposes only.

These are just a few of the many camps serving children with special needs and/or serving special populations.

Camp Akeela: Located in Thetford Center, Vermont, as well as on the campus of Lawrence University in central Wisconsin. The camp is for children ages 9-17 who have been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism or a NVLD.

Camp Tag: A food allergy-friendly day camp. One-week day camps at multiple sites. The camp povides a safe place for children with food allergies, eosinophilic disorders, asthma and non-allergic siblings to have fun – with no worries about allergic reactions – and meet other children who share similar experiences. It is a bonding and empowering week for all campers, including parents.

Lions Camp Badger: Located in Spencer, New York but hoping to expand to help kids in the Rochester, New York area. The camp is an overnight camp run by members of the Lions Club. The camp is for 8-21 year-olds and adults with disabilities.

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp: Located in New Haven, Connecticut. The camp provides medically-supervised summer camps and programs free of charge to children with serious illnesses and their families throughout the Northeast.

Double H Ranch: Located in Lake Luzerne, New York. The camp is co-founded by Charles R. Wood and Paul Newman. It provides specialized programs and year-round support for children and their families dealing with life-threatening illnesses. All programs are FREE of charge and capture the magic of the Adirondacks.

Clover Patch Camp: This camp closed for 2025 season.
