Using the NASN School Nursing Practice Framework to Address Environmental Health Concerns

Have you ever noticed a cluster of headaches or stomachaches in one area of your school? Or an increase in asthma symptoms that made you wonder if something in the environment could be contributing?

After nearly two decades in school nursing, environmental health was still a fairly new concept to me. As I explored the topic, I gained a new perspective on how environmental factors can influence student and staff health and how school nurses can play an important role in identifying and addressing these concerns. Environmental health concerns are often hidden in plain sight. By learning to view school health through an environmental lens, we can better recognize potential risks and become stronger advocates for healthy learning environments.

I invite you to join me for Using the NASN School Nursing Practice Framework to Address Environmental Health Concerns at the NASN Annual Conference on Wednesday, July 1, from 2:00–3:15 p.m.

Together, we'll explore how the NASN School Nursing Practice Framework can be used to address environmental health concerns in school settings. My hope is that you will leave with new knowledge, practical resources, and ideas you can use to promote a healthier school environment for your students and staff.

I look forward to learning with you!
