Position/Office Details

During the next election cycle, NASN will seek candidates for the office of President-Elect 2021-2023, Secretary/Treasurer 2021-2023 and for membership on the Nominating Committee 2021-2023.

NASN members may self-nominate by completing the full application packet described below under Applicant Responsibility and submitting the packet to the chair of the nominating committee prior to March 15th, 2020.

President-Elect Candidate

Responsibilities of the President-Elect include:

  1. Serve as liaison to American Academy of Pediatrics—Council on School Health (COSH) and other groups as assigned by the president.
  2. Work closely with the president to coordinate the work of the organization in order to assume leadership and to provide continuity in transition to president.
  3. Work with the president and executive director to coordinate the affiliate leadership meeting at the annual conference.
  4. Chair the review of the NASN Board Standing Rules and How2Guides.
  5. Facilitate the orientation meeting for new directors each fall with a follow up in spring.
  6. Facilitate board development and understanding of board governance.
  7. Serve as an ex-officio member of the Bylaws committee and participate in bylaw review process.
  8. Perform other duties as directed by the president.
  9. At the end of the 2 year term as President-Elect, the President-Elect will be sworn in as the President of NASN. The NASN President serves as the chief elected officer, representative, and spokesperson of the association with all of the duties as listed in the NASN Governing Documents.

Candidate Qualifications

  1. Be a current active NASN member who is working in the field of school nursing and who has been a member of NASN for no less than 4 consecutive years immediately prior to nomination.
  2. Be a current active member of an affiliate association.
  3. Have served on the NASN Board of Directors for at least one term or served as an officer of an affiliated organization for at least one term.
  4. Nominated candidates for office, if elected may not serve concurrently as an officer of an affiliate association or as an NASN Director. If elected to NASN office, they must resign from any elected/appointed affiliate position or office.

Candidate Applicant Responsibility

  • Each potential candidate shall submit their application to the nominating committee chair by midnight (Eastern) March 15th via email.
    • The official nomination and candidate data form (Form 301) will be downloaded, completed, and submitted.
    • The candidate statement of view containing the platform statement of not more than 300 words (Form 302) will be downloaded, completed and submitted. 
    • An employer letter of support from the school district superintendent or administrator with authority to support the time and commitment for work related to NASN elected office role.  (Form 306 is a template.)
    • Two (2) letters of recommendation, one that should come from the affiliate association.
    • A digitally scanned color (300 dpi) photograph of him/herself (for posting and reproduction purposes for nominated candidates).

Secretary/Treasurer Candidate

In addition to duties listed in the other NASN governing documents and prescribed by the parliamentary authority adopted by the corporation, the NASN Secretary-Treasurer shall:

  1. Record and maintain the minutes of all meetings of the executive committee, board of directors, and the NASN Annual Meeting.
  2. Serve as chair of the finance committee, the investment advisory committee, and the professional practice document advisory committee and submit written reports of the activities of these committees to the executive committee and board of directors.
  3. Monitor the development of the annual budget, including restricted and unrestricted funds.
  4. Monitor NASN monthly financial reports of the chief financial officer.
  5. Monitor NASN investment accounts to insure compliance with board policies.
  6. Correspond with strategic committee co-leaders, executive committee, and board of directors in regard to all budget requests.
  7. Lead the review and update of NASN Board Standing Rules and How2Guides that pertain to financial operation and activities of NASN.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by the president.

Nominating Committee Member Candidate

Responsibilities of a Nominating Committee Member:

  1. Seek out qualified candidates for office and determine their eligibility.
  2. Nominate at least two candidates for each office if possible.
  3. Report to the board of directors each year at the board meeting preceding the annual meeting and present the slate of candidates at that time.
  4. Oversee the credentialing procedure at the annual meeting.
  5. Work with the NASN President-elect to review the How2Guide and make recommendations to the executive committee for revisions.

Candidate Qualifications

  1. Be a current active member of an affiliate association.
  2. Have served on the NASN Board of Directors.
