NASN urges immediate passage of the Nurses for Under-Resourced Schools Everywhere (Nurse) Act, which would recognize the critical role of school nurses in providing students access to quality health care so that they are safe, healthy, and ready to learn. The NURSE Act was introduced by Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) in the Senate and Representative Dina Titus (D-NV) introduced the companion bill in the House of Representatives. Members of Congress are urged to ensure that all children have access to a School Nurse.

NASN supports The Tobacco Tax Equity Act that would increase and equalize tobacco taxes across the board. It will also tax E-cigarettes on the federal level for the first time ever. The Tobacco Tax Equity Act was introduced by Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL).

NASN urges Congress to pass The Improving the Social Determinants of Health Act that would authorize the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create a new program that would prioritize the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) – those factors that affect health and can acerbate other conditions. SDOH are those conditions in the environments in which people are born live, learn, work, play and worship. This legislation was introduced by Representative Nanette Diaz Barragan (D-CA) as well as Senators Tina Smith (D-MN) and Chris Murphy (D-CT).
