California Congressmen Dr. Raul Ruiz & Adam Schiff Win Lillian Wald Award
SILVER SPRING, MD— The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) has named Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz, of California's 25th District, and Congressman Adam Schiff, of California's 30th District, as the winners of the Lillian Wald Legislator/Public Policy Award. Congressman Schiff was unable to join the award ceremony in person.
The award recognizes a legislator or public policy official who has supported or uniquely contributed to NASN, school nursing, or school health services.
"We are pleased to award Congressmen Schiff and Ruiz the Lillian Wald Award for their work introducing the "Helping Educators Respond to Overdoses" or HERO Act," said NASN CEO Terri Hinkley, EdD, MBA, BScN, RN, CAE. "For almost 10 years, NASN has been advocating for the safe and effective management of opioid-induced overdoses in schools, including calling for ready access to Naloxone to save lives. NASN is grateful to Representatives Schiff and Ruiz for prioritizing student health and recognizing the important role Naloxone plays in combatting the opioid epidemic. This work is critically important to school nursing."
