How Can School Nurses Help Prevent Outbreaks of Serious Diseases?

By Susan Hoffmann, MSN, RN, NCSN posted 06-20-2017 10:54

As nurses, we know vaccines are the best way to help protect teens against serious infectious diseases. 1

However, millions of teens remain under-vaccinated against dangerous diseases, particularly meningococcal meningitis and human papillomavirus infection, which both require a multi-dose vaccine series to help protect teens.2,3 Additionally, in 2015 less than 50% of teens were vaccinated against the flu.4

So how can school nurses play a pivotal role in helping to improve rates for the four CDC-recommended vaccines for adolescents? 1

On Saturday, July 1 at 10:00AM PT in Marriott Grand Ballroom 13, join me at the #NASN2017 demo session about the importance of teen vaccination and Stats4Vax, NASN’s collaboration with Sanofi Pasteur that provides resources to guide conversations with students and parents/guardians to see that teens are up-to-date on their immunizations.

Attend the interactive discussion designed to empower you, as school nurses, to prioritize vaccination in your schools.
