Bio

Susy Marcum graduated with her BSN from Illinois Wesleyan University and worked in the acute care and ambulatory settings before making the switch to school nursing.  She has worked for Unit 5 schools in Bloomington/Normal for over 25 years, including holding the Chair of the Nursing Department position for the past 12 years. Susy completed her National School Nurse Certification in 2012 and her master’s degree in nursing with a focus on Nursing Education at Aspen University in 2016. She has been a member of America's Promise School Project team at ISU-Mennonite College of Nursing since it began over 10 years ago and worked with this group to advocate for and launch the School Nurse Certificate Program at ISU-Mennonite College of Nursing 5 years ago. Susy earned the Award of Excellence from the Illinois State Board of Education Those Who Excel program in 2017 and was the Illinois Association of School Nurses School Nurse of the Year in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Susy is passionate about empowering the next generation of school nurses!
