School Nurses Play Key Role in Treating and Supporting Students with Cancer

By NASN Inc posted 02-04-2021 10:53

The sooner a student with cancer returns to school, or continues their learning outside school until they can return, the better his or her chance of academic and social success. It is imperative that the school team, including school nurses, understand what the child has experienced and their ongoing and future needs.

By taking this course, you will get a brief overview of the effects of treatment, including medical, cognitive, and psychosocial challenges for survivors throughout their education, laws that protect children, adolescent, and young adult survivors’ rights, strategies to help meet the students’ education needs, and resources to support schools and families. This course was originally presented at Virtual NASN2020 and is now available in the NASN Learning Center.
