The following announcement is posted on behalf of Dorian Vicente, MSN, RN, NJ-CSN President NJSSNA
*************************************************************************************************************************
Dear Colleagues,
Last week a proposed bill S2518 was fast tracked in the NJ Senate. This proposed bill would waive the annual physical examination requirement for certain student-athletes who participate in school sponsored athletic activities during the 2020-2021 school year. Please read the attached proposed bill S2518 that will be voted upon soon with a possible twin bill in the Assembly.
NJSSNA opposes this proposed legislation and provided partial testimony to the Senate Education Appropriations Committee last week. Attached you will find the NJSSNA Opposition Statement to bill S2518. Opposition statement letters were also sent to the entire Senate and to Senator Ruiz who is directing the Senate Education Recovery Task Force in which NJSSNA legislative team participates on.
It is NJSSNA's position that in light of the potential health implications related to COVID-19, it is imperative that the currently mandated deadlines for sports physicals, as per current NJ statutes, are upheld for the health and safety of all student athletes".
