NASN Names Dr. Mayumi Willgerodt as New Editor
of The Journal of School Nursing

SILVER SPRING, MD— The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) is pleased to announce that Mayumi Anne Willgerodt, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, FNASN, a distinguished academic and leader in school nursing and public health, will assume the role of Editor for The Journal of School Nursing. Dr. Willgerodt will succeed Martha Dewey Bergren, PhD, RN, NCSN, PHNA-BC, FNASN, FASHA, FAAN, who has been at the helm of the journal since September 2020, and will continue to contribute until her retirement this summer.

Dr. Willgerodt, the Mary S. Tschudin Endowed Professor of Nursing Education at the University of Washington (Seattle), brings a wealth of experience and an unwavering commitment to advancing school health and nursing. She serves in a number of roles at the University of Washington, including Vice-Chair of Education for the Child, Family, and Population Health Nursing Department; Track Lead, Population and Health Systems Leadership, School of Nursing; Affiliate Faculty, Center for Health Sciences Education, Research, & Practice; and Affiliate Faculty, Center for Global Health Nursing. She is a globally recognized scholar with a track record of research and innovation. Her contributions include leading the National School Nurse Workforce Study and collaborating on initiatives that enhance care coordination, health equity, and interprofessional education.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Willgerodt as the next editor of The Journal of School Nursing. Her expertise in population health and her dedication to improving the practice and policy of school nursing make her the ideal candidate to guide the journal into its next chapter," said NASN CEO Terri Hinkley, EdD, MBA, BScN, RN, CAE.

Bergren, the outgoing editor, has skillfully led The Journal of School Nursing, strengthening its reputation as the premier source of evidence-based practices and research for school health professionals. Bergren’s contributions have left a lasting legacy, and NASN is grateful for her leadership and dedication to the field.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to build upon Martha Bergren’s outstanding work," said Dr. Willgerodt. "The Journal of School Nursing plays a pivotal role in shaping the research, policy and practice of school nursing, and I look forward to working with authors, reviewers, and NASN members to continue advancing the science and practice of school nursing."

Dr. Willgerodt will officially begin her editorial duties in February, overseeing the journal's mission to provide cutting-edge research and insights that empower school nurses to ensure the health and academic success of all students.
