Review Guide (Available from NBCSN): Selekman, J. & Knox, E. (Eds.). (2025). School Nursing Certification Review. (4th edition). National Board for Certification of School Nurses.

Textbook: Shannon, R. & Yonkaitis, C. (Eds.). (2025). School Nursing: A Comprehensive Text (4th edition). F.A. Davis Company.

Review Guide Chapter 4, Health Problems and Nursing Management, is no longer treated as a standalone exam domain under the updated NBCSN exam blueprint. Instead, that content has been redistributed across the four current domains, so topics from Chapter 4 now appear throughout the exam wherever they relate to health appraisal, disease prevention, school health practice considerations, and professional responsibility. In other words, Chapter 4 is still very important content — it is just woven across the exam rather than tested as its own separate category.

Hello, Question for you regarding the School Nursing: A comprehensive text (4th Edition).....I have the third edition. Do you recommend I replace it, or is there a way to figure out which chapters would coordinate with the new edition for reading assignments?

Jennifer, thanks for the question. Although we would always recommend updating your professional reference library to the most current edition, the 3rd edition of the comprehensive text is still very relevant. With a little cross-referencing on your part, I think you will be able to follow along with the study materials using the 3rd edition. There will be clear topic areas for each assignment. Feel free to post to the discussion once the assignments are released, as others may also be using the 3rd edition of the comprehensive text and you may be able to locate topics together.
