Hello! Niche question about tube feeding the school setting. In the study book it is discussed that enteral feeding can be done via PEG/G tube, or via NG tube inserted by the parent or school nurse. I have never inserted an NG tube outside of the ICU setting: there, we would measure, insert, and then a KUB would be ordered to ensure proper placement (granted, most of these patients were intubated/sedated and might not cough, or otherwise notify, that it felt wrong). I'm wondering if this is correct -- could you insert an NG tube in the school setting (without Xray assurance that it's correctly placed and you're not about to pour food into the lungs or so forth?). Is gastric aspiration safe? I assume yes, since it's in the book, but wondering about others' thoughts on this, especially if child was non or minimally verbal.
