NASN Statement on Vaccine Advisory Panel Dismissals

By NASN Inc posted 06-10-2025 15:40

The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) is deeply concerned by the recent decision of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to dismiss all 17 members of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). This unprecedented action risks undermining the public’s trust in a process that has safeguarded the health of generations.

The ACIP has long played a critical role in reviewing scientific evidence and ensuring that immunization guidelines are informed by rigorous research, diverse clinical expertise, and public transparency. The integrity of this process is essential to maintaining confidence in the safety and efficacy of vaccines.

Vaccines are one of the most effective public health tools in history. Access to vaccines covered by both private and public health insurance, including the Affordable Care Act and Vaccines for Children (VFC), provide coverage for millions of children each year.

NASN urges decision-makers to preserve science-based advisory processes and resist actions that politicize public health.

School nurses witness every day how vaccines protect students, families, and communities from serious illness and disruption. Preventing communicable diseases is critical for maintaining student health, but also for promoting school attendance and student access to learning. NASN urges decision-makers to preserve science-based advisory processes and resist actions that politicize public health. Now more than ever, restoring public trust requires consistency, transparency, and a steadfast commitment to the evidence-based standards that have been shown to improve health outcomes.

NASN remains committed to promoting vaccine access, education, and confidence through the trusted role of school nurses across the country to keep students healthy, safe, and ready to learn.
