Hello Website Admins! We met March 27th and here are some notes.

The overarching theme of our meetings beginning in February has been the creation of a top 10 subjects a website admin needs to know and providing one or more resources on each subject.

Click here to view the working slide deck containing the subjects and resources. Refer to it when you have updates to make and share feedback here so we can improve it over time. Some subjects are highlighted; these are items I know need resources created.

During our meeting, we did have some great conversation about these things:

    • When on NASN.org, would I be able to locate website admin resources using the search? We identified pitfalls with being able to locate website admin resources via the search on NASN.org. This is something that I research for ways to improve the outcomes. However, in the meantime, please refer to the working slide deck of our top 10 subjects to locate resources.
    • What is that area "behind" the web pages where you update documents on your site (i.e., award applications, conference registration forms, other)? We identified this as the site's file manager. We discussed how the file manager is very hidden because you can only access it through a text editor. There is no file manager option in the website admin tools across the top of the site. We also discussed how the file manager is located by selecting the insert file tool on the text editor toolbar. This is one more way that the file manager remains illusive. For these reasons, the next resource to be created will be a resource that explains the file manager.
    • What about the home page and editing the home page? We discussed how the home page updates should be made with care but that you have full control to make changes. When your site is set up, the layout on the home page is carefully established to make it pleasing to the eye and include the most important things so use care when changing the layout. In addition, home page components may have view permissions on them. You have have a content item that is only visible to your members and other content that non members will see. Use care when changing or editing content; look to see what the view permissions are on the content item. If the view permissions are NOT everyone, reach out to ask for support before making a change.
