We will begin our next study group on Friday, Jan 6th. I post a new message every Friday for 7 weeks. The more discussions/questions posted in the group, the more helpful the virtual study group is for those who participate.

    Hi,

I joined this community and would like to work towards obtaining my certification. However, I am taking on another goal which is going to make my Fridays tied up from working until 3:30pm and then taking a course from 5pm-9pm. My question is would I still be able to participate in this group and what does the virtual group study sessions have related to our we required to be logged on here at specific times or is it where we would work with this group on our own time.

    Thanks for any info....

The group is held through email posts. There is no particular time you need to participate. The assignments are posted on Friday mornings at 5:00. You can access them at any time. Just 'JOIN' the National Certification Exam Candidates community.

My name is Lisa, I have been a school nurse for 2 years and absolutely love it. I made the leap to school nursing after 30 years of ICU work. The purpose for me getting nationally certified is to dig a bit deeper in myself to be the best at whatever I do. I want to avoid being the one that says I didn't know that. I look forward to this study group and testing.

Hi all, my name is Lorrie Springer and I work as a school nurse in the State of Maine. I have been a school nurse for 10 years, obtained my Masters degree in 2020 and feel that this is the next step in my career. I look forward to all your posts. It has been a while since I have had to sit for any type of testing, so I would be lying if I did not say I was a little nervous.

    Lorrie, I can completely relate!

My name is Angie Bulmahn. I got my Masters as a very young RN. I have been a school nurse for the past 15 years, and in the past month, have accepted a position with MO Department of Health on their School Health Team. So, I knew, now was the time for me to get this certification. But, it's been a very long time since I have undergone any type of testing and I'm nervous too! J

I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who's nervous! I am a Texas nurse, and I have not been back to school since earning my BSN in 1987. I have been a school nurse 19 years and am currently working for the Region 5 Education Service Center as the Program Specialist for School Health. I know I have served my previous districts well as a school nurse and Health Services Coordinator, but in my mind I wonder, "Are my years of experience enough? Will I know the answers to the specific questions on the exam?" In the spirit of transparency, I have a fear of not passing the exam. There, I said it.

Carrie, Shari, Lorrie, Angie and others,

Being nervous about taking an exam is quite normal. I am going to recommend that you go to the NurseBuilders site and purchase for $10.00 a one-hour program (as a bonus you can get 1 ANCC credit for this program).

    https://ecourses.nursebuilders.net/courses/Nursing-Certification-Exam-Preparation-Studying-Anxiety-Management-Test-Taking-Techniques

The sooner you purchase this the sooner you can get started following its suggestions. One of the big things it addresses is how to pace your studying, it also addresses anxiety management and test taking techniques. I have viewed this, I specifically asked NurseBuilders to do this video for our candidates, they did it for me, I viewed it and I think you will find it particularly helpful. All of the tips are quite helpful. If you do purchase it please let me know what you think about it.

    Regards,

    Pat

    Hello everyone,
I'm happy to be participating in the study group. After working 20 years in the hospital setting, I've been a school nurse for the last 2 years. I love every aspect of it! There's a new learning experience every day. I want to become certified to further understand caring for students and faculty in the school setting. Thank you for this opportunity!

Mattie:  this group is set up that you can access at your convenience.  Robin, the lead, will post early am on the appointed day.

The group depends on LOTS of participants (or a few) ASKING lots of probing questions, esp those that occur as you continue to 'move' through the content.
