  • 1.  Remote Exam Dos & Don'ts (my personal experience)

    Posted 03-28-2023 11:33 AM

After 2 weeks of frustration with remote proctoring and PSI, I was finally able to take (and pass) my exam yesterday. Based on my personal experience, here are some Do's & Don'ts for the remote exam. I hope my headaches will help facilitate the process for others.

    Do

    • Use a personal device to take exam
    • Ensure you have the latest version of Windows or MacOS installed
    • Use Chrome browser
    • Use personal wifi or hotspot
    • Make sure you have space (and access) on your device to download the remote proctoring program (0.39GB)
    • Bring your driver's license
    • Check-in to start "launching" your exam 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time (this is the earliest time permitted)
    • Have your phone nearby (but outside of reach during exam) and numbers handy in case you have to call PSI customer service or tech support
    • Prepare yourself to be on hold with PSI support for long periods of time and be asked to verify your identify each time your call is transferred
    • Make sure that if you have issues, contact PSI IT, get a ticket #, & escalate your claim to avoid being charged if your exam needs to be rescheduled for technical issues

    Don't

Take the exam remotely if you have any other option

I agree completely. If you are able to go to a test center, then do so. I had so many issues with the download and installation of the PSI program, that it took to long and I missed my test time. I was able to move my test window to the summer session, so I will go to a test center.

Thank you for posting this. I am taking my online exam this Saturday. I am curious to know if others have taken the online version and had no issues. Your experience is very worrying and stressing me out. Has anyone else had a successful online experience? If so, I would love to hear about it before my test on Saturday to give myself peace of mind.

Please check out this webpage, there may be time to switch to a test center if that is feasible for you.

If it is I think you can do that online with PSI, if you have a problem with that you can contact the NBCSN office at 833-276-0986. Just don't wait until the last minute.

I took my exam online from home and did not have any issues. It was great! I was happy to be able to take my exam in my own environment. I did do the systems check again the morning before the exam just to be sure everything was ready.

    Good luck!!

I didn't any huge issues but make sure your area is completely clear of anything. They will want to look above the desk/table you are using and all around the room. Make sure there are no other people or animals around. Do not have anything on the area you are testing except your ID. Also give yourself plenty of time to check in and check your mic and camera ahead of time. Good luck!!!
