Susan Zacharski, MEd, BSN, RN of Troy, MI began her school nursing career in 1988. She received her BSN from Wayne State University and her Master’s in Education with a focus in School Nursing from Cambridge College. Susan worked in several capacities in the Pontiac School District including a Center Based program for medically fragile students birth-12 years old, Coordinator of Health Services K-12, and the last four years in a Center Based program for medically fragile students three-26 years old. She served on and co-chaired various state committees and task forces. As an active member in the Michigan Association of School Nurses, Susan served in numerous board positions including president and has received several awards at the state, community and school district level. She is currently an Independent School Nurse Consultant.
Susan served on the NASN Board of Directors 2009-2013 where she developed and implemented the process for the revision of NASN Position Documents and received the NASN Distinguished Service Award. She was Co-Chair of the Research Strategic Committee, co-authored several position documents, has written articles for the NASN School Nurse, served as a member of the NASN Fellows Selection Committee 2 years and 5 years on Endowment Fundraising Committee, 1 year as Chair. She served as NASN Vice President, 2014-2018. Susan also served as the Chair of the Membership Committee, oversaw the Excellence in School Nursing Awards and Distinguished Service Awards, served as a liaison to the Special Interest Groups, Chair the Continuing Education Committee, oversight of the nursing online communities and other duties prescribed by NASN governing documents. Most recently she was chair of the NASN 50th Anniversary History Committee creating the Gallery of Visions and Voices.
