As a PSA, I have been trying to take my at home prometric test for 4 HRS!!! The service is horrible, continual technical difficulties. NBCSN you should consider using a different company to outsource testing.

Wow! I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time! It's already nerve wracking to have to take the test without the added stress of not being able to actual take the test!

Anyone else have any issues? What was the actual problem? I'm scheduled for the end of July.
    Good Luck!!

Julia, I have forwarded your email to the office. For situations like this you should contact Prometric as indicated in the Remote Proctoring Manual or contact the NBCSN office at 1-833-276-0986.

There really is no one on this list who can help you.

Yes Pat I've been on the phone with Prometric (which in and of itself took 1/2 hr) and also spoke to several people online and they are advising me I have to contact NBCSN  quite frustrating to hear that you are saying no one from NBCSN can help me.

Given that NBCSN is promoting the use of the at home exam I would assume you and others preparing to take this exam would be interested to hear that nurses are encountering problems. I have test anxiety to begin with and noe after 5 hours of stressful encounter after stressful encounter it seems like I'm being told I either have to try to have the exam relaunched or I'm out of luck because I saw some of the questions (because during one instance I was taking the exam and my mouse froze out of nowhere). It's too bad that's titles have no trust in adults being honorable and not divulging answers to exams.

Julia, I didn't say no one from NBCSN can help you, I said no one on this discussion list can help you.  You can call the office at 833-276-0986. Please  give them some time to get back to you. Everyone is working from home. NBCSN can help you if you want to reschedule, they cannot help you with your online technical difficulties. You may want to reschedule to take the exam at a testing center, or move your exam to the Fall Window, but you need to contact the office for that.

    Pat,
Thank you for your response. Yes, in my stressed out state I misread your initial message. Thankfully all is resolved, but it was very stressful on top of having test anxiety to start to deal with. My original purpose of the post was mostly to give a heads up to those scheduled to take the test during this testing session. Hopefully my bad luck today won't occur for anyone else, but good to prepared for good and bad issues. The online Proctor's did their best to help, but good to be prepared that if you encounter any connection problems it can create a larger issue. Wishing everyone best of luck!!

I took my exam July 9th at home. My appointment was for 1:15 pm. I did not start until 4 pm. I just sat and waited, was unsure if there was a problem, called to have a message say no one available by phone, crazy. I had a terrible experience with prometric when I had to test in person and worse at home. I wrote to them about my experience with no apology or response. I was so nervous by the time I took it I'm hoping all went well. I feel pretty confident. Good lick to others.πŸ™πŸΌ

Monica, I am sorry that you had such a bad experience. I am copying this message to the NBCSN to our office staff. I am sure someone will be in contact with you, please give them time. Everyone is working from home.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR EVERYONE: if you experience difficulties with your testing situation it is important that you contact the NBCSN office either by email at info@nbcsn.org or by phone at 833-276-0986. We want to help and we want to hear when you have difficulties but this is not the appropriate place. There is really no one on this list to help you.

For anyone who is taking their test remotely please make sure you have looked at this document.

    https://www.prometric.com/sites/default/files/2019-10/PrometricProUserGuide.pdf

If you experience difficulties please contact Prometric and also contact NBCSN (833-276-0986).

Prometric can hopefully help you with technical difficulties, NBCSN wants to know if you have a problem and they can help with any rescheduling you may need to do.

It is important to us that things go as smoothly as possible, but we don't have any control over the remote proctoring itself.

    Best of luck to all.

    Stay well.

Oh my goodness Monica and Julia--I'm sorry you had such a bad experience! It's stressful enough sitting down to take the test without technical difficulties on top of it.  By way of feedback for others, I took my test from home yesterday and it went very smoothly. I went through the Prometric ProProctor Guide with a fine-tooth comb the night before and I'm glad I did--I have a Mac, which requires a few extra steps to install the program.  I had that all done, as well as my space set up the night before and I logged on 15 minutes before my testing time, which was early in the morning.  Maybe due to the early time, but I didn't have to wait at all--a proctor was on with me immediately and I had no issues after that.  Good luck to those still waiting to take it! :)

I just received an email that my testing center is closed and my test there is canceled. They rescheduled me an hour away on a Monday at 4:30, when at this point I am working 12 hours/day and don't even get home until 8 pm. I sent them an email that this is not an option for me and it says they will get back to me in 5-7 days. I'm not sure why they let you schedule at testing center that is closed. It shows as closed from June 1st but it still let me schedule there?

    Hello Pat and everyone,
I'm getting ready to test on Friday. I just had a very large back surgery and needed some testing accommodations. Theresa at NBCSN has helped me through all the way. She is really a lovely person. I know she has been crazy with the summer window  open but was always respectful, informative, and helpful. I just wanted everyone to know that if you have problems they are definitely willing to help. Thanks to Theresa I can focus on my test Friday without any other worries. Thank you Theresa!!  I hope you know how much I appreciated your help.
I'm excited to take my exam on Friday! I've prepared as much as I think I can and will be relieved when it's all over. Thankful for the support of this group and the online review course. Good luck to everyone testing in the summer session. Remember we've passed our boards and we do this in our office everyday. Be confident and have faith. You all have this.

NBCSN Staff is always happy to take your phone calls, but I would like to make everyone aware of another option to confirm your exam has been submitted. The following webpage captures communications that Prometric sends to you (even if you did not receive it in your email inbox):

You will need your Prometric Confirmation number (usually begins with 0000000).

Results will be emailed to you 6-8 weeks from when the exam window ends. The current exam window will end on August 15th so you can expect to see results no later than October 10, 2020.

    Hey Everyone,
Today was my remote exam day and it was an epic fail. Apparently even though I met all the system requirements, the proctor kept freezing. I spent 5.5 hours just waiting for help. I was booted off the chat helpline numerous times. I changed locations three times, 2 different houses and 2 different computers. When I finally thought I had it all worked out I received an error message and was unable to launch. I spoke with NBCSN and sent emails to prometrics. I'll have to figure it out tomorrow. I'm so disappointed and beyond frustrated. The comic relief is that the error message was BB02020: like ohhh 2020. I appreciate having somewhere to complain.
    Until tomorrow... Angela

My nightmare continues. I spent 2 hours with prometrics trying to reschedule my exam. I was told someone would call me back. That hasn't happened yet. Prometrics couldn't even give me my options I'm thinking I should take it at a center, which I really didn't want to do. I just can't risk the upload issues again! Hopefully I can get this resolved Monday. I enjoyed hearing that others are having good experiences and thank you nurses who shared their nightmares with me! Ohhhh 2020. Lol

Angela, yes--that's what I did.  I even had the page pulled up and my confirmation number and last name entered and was on the page where all I had to do was click "launch".  My room was set up: I had a mirror, 2 tissues, my driver's license, a hand mirror, a blank piece of paper and a non-mechanical pencil.  I had heard on the NBCSN webinar (I think) that I could have the paper and pencil, but the proctor had to look it up and found that it was indeed allowed.  It turns out I didn't need them at all--there's a calculator available on each page of the test and there's also a way to flag questions to come back to.  It helped me sleep better knowing that everything was set up and ready to go--including a note on the outside of my door telling my family to NOT disturb me! :) . Good luck!

    Kelly,
You should receive an email from Prometric several days before you test that has links to check your system and be sure everything is downloaded correctly, instructions, and a link to the test portal. (If you have a Mac, there a few extra steps to ready your system--they are detailed in the ProProctor User Guide.   You will need the confirmation number from this email to log in, so maybe print it out and have it handy.  I hope it goes smoothly for you--best of luck!

I am staying calm and patient with no intention of rescheduling or canceling.

Yes, as with anything in life some people will have good experiences and some people will have bad ones, but thankfully since I started this thread people now have the info needed in case they run into the same problem. I also did all the preparations needed and it didn't help because well technology is technology, but again glad to hear others had better experiences and will keep the fingers crossed for you Chris!

Absolutely, Julia.  I definitely took a deep breath when I hit "launch", hoping that technology wouldn't fail me this time!  I didn't mean to suggest that you hadn't prepared--I thought I'd just share my experience and some tips.  Forgive me if that came across wrong. I think we all feel so stressed sitting down to take this test and I feel terrible that some people's stress is amplified by system problems.

Not at all Sarah! It’s good to ensure everyone knows what to do to be prepared! I was just amplifying what you wrote that even with prep technology has a mind of its own, but this way many will have all the info needed for both scenarios! Wishing you luck on the results!

    Christine,

How did it go? Were you able to take the test?

I was thinking of you and sending you positive vibes!
