    Dear friends,

I know that receiving news that you did not pass the National Certification Exam for School Nurses can be a difficult and disappointing experience. However, I want to remind you that this does not define your worth as a nurse or as a person. It is just a setback, and setbacks are temporary.

Remember that you have already come so far in your nursing journey, and that is something to be proud of. You have the knowledge, skills, and passion to make a positive impact on the lives of your staff, students, and families. You have the ability to learn from this experience and use it as a stepping stone to grow. Most often it is test taking strategies that need deeper review, perhaps something to focus on in the future.

Take some time to reflect on what you can do differently next time. Consider seeking additional resources or study materials to better prepare yourself for the next exam. Don't be afraid to ask for help or guidance from your mentors, colleagues, or even from a tutor.

Most importantly, do not give up on your dream of becoming a nationally certified school nurse. You will succeed. Keep moving forward, and know that I am rooting for you every step of the way.

Best of luck to you, and keep shining bright!

Robin, you always have such great words of encouragement. I would add to Robins' remark, make sure that you look at your score report closely.  Did you miss passing by only a few points? Your score report will tell you if you need to work on one or two areas. Did you know that there is a Test Blueprint in the Handbook? That delineates all of the domains and tells you what is covered in each domain.  What is your score report telling you about each domain, did you fall short in one or two areas, or were you low in all of them. If it was one or two, that is where you need to work, if it was all of them, you very probably know the information, but you are "not a good test taker." Let's look at that. You passed your NCLEX. How many times did you take that?

If you feel that you are not a good test taker I urge you, for $10 and one hour of your time to purchase Nursing Certification Exam Preparation Studying, Anxiety Management, Test Taking Techniques. This is a NurseBuilders program, that I specifically asked them to do for NBCSN applicants. I have viewed it and I think it is very good. I recommend that you view it very early in the process so you can follow the suggestions for preparation.

One bit of anxiety that I really think you don't need to worry about is running out of time. You have 4 hours for 200 questions, most people finish in about 3-3.5 hours, so you have plenty of time.

Please join and participate in the study group. If you have a question about something, ask. Chances are someone else has the same question. The study group is meant to be participatory, and we have found that those who actively participate do better.

Get ready! If you join the study group Robin Cogan will send the first message on May 19.  If you haven't joined, go to the National Certification Exam Candidates community of SchoolNurseNet and click join.

    Regards,

    Hi all,

I am approved to sit for the summer testing time and will begin actively participating in this study group.

While my timing was ahead in joining the last study group, I wasn't able to dedicate the thoughtful time to asking questions as I was wrapping up my DNP work. Now that the DNP work is coming to a close, I have an outline of how I will shift my time from DNP work to the certification prep.

I did purchase the online practice exams and the certification review book.

I have not worked a lot with general education high school students and will dedicate heavier time to this as I understand I probably have a gap in knowledge practice.

Most of my work is in a large urban area as well. So I will up my knowledge of more rural practice information as well.

I will schedule one day off a week to just "be," and not study. I will practice self-care daily, and I will help answer others questions if this is helpful to them.

I hope to sit in August and I will do so in person. I don't have a sterile room for the exam (insert sarcasm) and I like thought of testing at a center as it is in line with my mentality & preparation. Plus, stable Wi-Fi and deep cleaning aren't needed :)

Here with you all! Bring it on!

    Best,
    Stephanie Rossi

Stephanie, you are the poster child of preparation. Save these thoughts so that you can share them when the study group starts.
