    I have taken one practice test and had this question. Wanted to see what you all thought. Obviously it is not accurate since the explanation contained answers that were not choices in the question, but what do we think would be the most correct answer? 

    Basically what do you think the definition is on "prolonged seizure"? One specific seizure? Or one diagnosed with a seizure disorder? 

    This also makes me nervous about using the practice tests. How many questions are jumbled and mixed up? 

    Which of the following is an effective medication for prolonged seizures?

    Correct Answer: A: Diazepam (Diastat)
    Rationale:  Diazepam is the only medication listed for prolonged seizures. Montelukast is for Asthma, Rosigliazone is for Diabetes, Methylphenidate is for ADHD.

    A prolonged seizure would be any seizure lasting 5 minutes or longer. Diastat is the drug of choice to administer once the patient has hit the 5 minute mark of a seizure. Keppra is a daily medication used by patients with seizure disorders.

    I passed the exam in November. I found listening/watching the 8 session review video and going through lots and lots practice questions prepared me for passing.

    NBCSN has two 75-question practice exams available for purchase on their website.  They are a great way to track your learning, gain exposure to the style of questions you will see on the exam, and guide studying.

    Even with the wrong meds listed in the rationale. We know Diastat is for prolonged seizures. Keppra is for maintenance. The other two are for completely different diagnoses (Diabetes and ADHD).

    Generally, "prolonged seizure" would five (5) minutes or longer.
