As the federal government shutdown continues without resolution, funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — the nation’s largest anti-hunger program — is set to run out on November 1, putting food assistance for over 42 million Americans at risk. This includes children and families who rely on SNAP to meet their basic nutritional needs. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has directed state agencies to pause the distribution of November benefits “until further notice” due to insufficient federal funds. On July 22, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a proposed rule following the Trump administration's move to reinstate a statutory process for restoring Second Amendment rights lost under federal law due to convictions or other disqualifying circumstances.
