    Hello,
Does anyone have any experience with this school nurse certification review course?  I'm looking for input before I spend the money.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Nancy,
I do not have direct experience with the online study guide, I believe it is out of North Carolina.  I did hear one of the curriculum writers of the program speak at NASN last year.  I believe this was part of her MSN capstone project.  I understand your concern about spending extra money for study guides.

We have created an online study group on this site that gives a framework for studying for the exam.  The Handbook for Candidates is a great place to start, with a series of multiple-choice questions.

Here is information on the NBCSN website:

For a complete Content Outline and Sample Questions, refer to our Handbook for Candidates.

The exam will be weighted in approximately the following manner:

    1. 27% Health Appraisal
    2. 28% Health Problems and Nursing Management
    3. 20% Health Promotion/Disease Prevention
    4. 13% Special Health Issues
    5. 12% Professional Issues

    Preparation

Exam preparation is a unique process for each candidate. School nurses have formed study groups, attended school nurse curriculum workshops, and reviewed school nursing and related texts in preparation for the examination. The examination is national in scope and reflects the broad variety of student and community populations, specialty practice situations, and legal and current health issues that school nurses confront in everyday practice. Exam questions are chosen from a larger pool of questions which provides for enabling variation of exam content and undergo a rigorous process to ensure their validity, reliability, and applicability to current school nursing practice.

Although there is no single study guide, the List of Resources included in the Handbook for Candidates may be helpful in preparing. Many of those resources are available on the NASN website and through the NASN bookstore. In addition, you will find Sample Questions in the handbook.

I wish you the very best in your studying and congratulations on making this important decision!

I will also take the exam this year and would love to study with you, Nancy.

I am hoping to take the exam this summer, since the spring study sessions are closed.

Just for clarification the spring exam window is not closed.  Unfortunately the portal has been down.  I hesitate to say it but we are hoping it will be restored by close of business tomorrow.  If it is not we will have a Plan B for applications.

I took the course last spring and found it helpful. It gave me an idea of where I need to focus for studying for the exam. I really had no idea of the content to focus on before hand. I'm planning to take the exam this summer.

I took it this fall and felt I got my money's worth. Make sure you download all resources including the video link for further study. It guides and reviews content. You will need to put time in studying content but it is divided into testing areas. The health assessment week is heavy. The final and all weeks have test questions.

I do not know anything about that online course but I found this and like it.

Nurse School (NCSN): Board and Certification Practice Test: 2017 Kindle Edition $9.95

    www.amazon.com
Buy Nurse School (NCSN): Board and Certification Practice Test: Read Kindle Store Reviews - Amazon.com

It is a Kindle edition, but there is a link to put it right on your desktop, no kindle involved.   200 questions for $10.00 and it has the rationalle for the answer, which I like.

We have a group that meets every other week and we have been using the study guide from this feed.  I have also taken some information from a facebook NCSN study group I found.

We go over the questions in the back of the review book chapter together.  We seem to all find it helpful.  Some of us are thinking of the March exam and some in the summer.  There are  7 of us in the group.

I am hoping to take the exam this summer.  I'll start with the Selekman review book.  Depending on how I feel about that, I may do another course.  Taking the exam will have no effect on my employment status or earnings as school admin is inherently focused on teacher credentialing, but I'll feel stronger.  If I move on to another field, it may just show that I applied myself to being highly trained.
